Nismo Rear Differential Cooler for Nissan GT-R Coming Soon

Nismo Rear Differential Cooler for Nissan GT-R Coming Soon

On the circuit and even with some hard street driving, GT-R owners will know that the transmission temperature has a habit of rising quite rapidly. To compound that, on the GT-R, the transmission is integrated with the rear differential housing and because of this, heat energy is freely transferred between them.
In Nismo’s testing experience, with their Tokachi 24hrs race car and their Super Taikyu R35, cooling the rear differential has been surprisingly effective at lowering transmission temperatures. So much so that they’re now releasing their in-house developed rear differential cooler as a kit for the GT-R.
The kit features a electric oil pump, braided hoses, cooler core, and wiring harness for automatic or manual in-cabin operation. When installed it increases the diff oil capacity by 2 liters which is a help by itself.
In Nismo’s testing of the ClubSport GT-R on Sodegaura Circuit in Chiba, they were happy to see the diff oil temperature at no time exceeded 140 degrees C. Exactly what the transmission temperature was like during the testing is not known though.
The diff oil cooler is due for release in April and we will have availability details at that time.

Dynamic Autosports Hankook Gruppe-S Drift GT-R Project Update: Part IV

Dynamic Autosports Hankook Gruppe-S Drift GT-R Project Update: Part IV

More from the guys at Gruppe-S today. This time they’ve documented the completion of their custom transmission mount for the G-Force 4-Speed dog box. As you’d know the GT-R’s rear mounted trans-axle has absolutely nothing in common with the engine mounted G-Force tranny so you could have foresaw the problems they’d have bolting it up.
Out came the welder and with a lot of hard work and effort the guys have put the problem behind them by fabricating a heavy duty support structure that should hold up to the stresses of drifting. As a result, the transmission is officially mounted in the car in addition to the engine which was mounted up last week.
What the guys will do with the rear subframe now there’s no transmission in it is going to be the next chapter in this story I’m sure.

The official launch of the inaugural FIA GT1 World Championship took place on Monday (1st March) where, together with the 11 other competing teams in the centre of Paris, Sumo Power GT unveiled one of its two Nissan GT-Rs. The team's drivers for this season Michael Krumm and Peter Dumbreck attended this spectacular event, which attracted media, sponsors, teams and motorsport promoters from across Europe. The launch began at the Automobile Club de France, Place de la Concorde, where FIA President Jean Todt gave the opening address, expressing how pleased he was to endorse a championship for GT cars which will see six major brands competing and become only the fourth FIA accredited motorsport World Championship. Series founder and CEO of SRO (the organisation behind the Championship) Stephane Ratel then thanked the FIA and all of the teams for their support and commitment and said: “ I am confident that the FIA GT1 World Championship will revitalise GT racing on a global scale.” Speaking on behalf of the manufacturers who are involved, NISMO President and Nissan Motor’s Global Motorsports Program Director Yuichi Sanada said, “We are very excited about Nissan returning to a world championship after nearly 20 years away. The FIA GT1 World Championship is ideal for Nissan to showcase its technology globally through the participation of its iconic Nissan GT-R. We are therefore looking forward to the inaugural race in Abu Dhabi in April.”

Following the presentation at the Automobile Club to France, guests and team personnel were transported to the Place Vendôme where - bathed in Parisian sunshine - 12 cars (one from each team) were positioned in the square under covers. Then, one-by-one, each was unveiled in the presence of Jean Todt and the awaiting press, each car displaying its new livery in public for the first time. Unveiling Sumo Power GT’s Nissan GT-R - race-number 23 - was Peter Dumbreck, with team-mate Michael Krumm and team principal James Rumsey also in attendance: “This is a significant moment for us”, said Mr Rumsey. “The launch today makes our vision of competing on the world stage with the backing of a manufacturer a reality and I’m delighted we are part of such a prestigious and high profile championship.” The team confirmed that it has carried out two successful tests recently, in France and Spain, with both Dumbreck and Krumm shaking-down its two Nissan GT-Rs. Each driver reported they were happy with the car’s set-up and performance and added that the pace in testing should see the Sumo Power GT in a good position to challenge for overall honours. Whilst in Spain, the team also tested a number of drivers for its second car, although no decision has yet been made on who will be selected for the second Nissan GT-R– race number 22 – the announcement now expected to be made mid-March.

The team is currently analysing the data from its tests and will prepare its cars in readiness for the first of the season’s 10 rounds at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on 17th April.
