Cross posted with Ferrari Chat.
http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthrea...8#post137851648 I apologize for the terrible editing, shooting and audio of this video. It was an imprompto interview that I promised some people in the Ferrari Chat ZR1 thread I would do to Get Steve Millen's thoughts on the GT-R's amazing times. Tword the end of the video he slips up a little and says that he just did another Road and Track comparison test. This time at the Big Track at Willow Springs instead of the smaller Buttonwillow track they did last time. He drops a rather shocking gem that first, the GT-R beat the 911 GT2, and that second there were two cars there that were faster. he wouldn't tell me which ones they were, but my guess is it's the Viper ACR and F430 Scuderia.... Anyone else have any ideas? Here is the video if anyone wants to strain to hear 6 minutes of bad audio... http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Steve-M...-GTR_170353.htm -------------------- |

Viper ACR and F430 Scud would be my choices as well. The Big track is a fast layout and I think the 600 horsepower and huge downforce would make the ACR tough to beat around there! I hope they fitted the Dunlops on the GT-R to make it a fair fight.

again im guessing the gtr is just easier to drive so you get more consistent times. /shrug

Well I agree with some of Millens points, but there's still no arguing that the GT-R was still much slower in terms of straightline acceleration in the Car and Driver test, when in comparison to the Road & Track test. Which was probably a big reason why the lap times were also slower in the C&D test. Weather conditions were never mentioned in this interview, which could have possibly had an affect on the ECU timing and detonation, even if both test used 91 octane. He also makes a good point about the GT-R's limit being higher than what most drivers would think, while extracting that last 10-15% out of the car requires a good amount of experience and understanding of how to drive a AWD car properly. AWD cars like to get thrown around a little more than one might think on a short track like BW. Most RWD cars if pushed that hard will just end up being slower, simply because they don't have the front wheels to help them to pull out of corner, which eliminates any extreme amounts of oversteer which would only slow lap times. Which most experienced RWD driver are used to. Here's a a vid of Nil's robispec evo at BW13. You can see how hard he's pushing the car. Much harder than you could get away with in any RWD car. Some drivers, even experienienced ones just aren't accustomed to such driving style as Millen mentioned.

Yes the driving style does not account for a 12.6 @ 111mph quarter mile time. That was one dog slow GT-R for some reason, 91 octane gas, heat, sick, who knows? That would account for a slower car, as well as the Dunlops the car was using. Millens 1:56.5 car was not great either as it only went 116mph in teh 1/4 mile. It would be nice to see what the latest Automobile GT-R would do around the track as it went 11.6@122mph!!! That's more like it......
