Sorry to hear about your busted tranny. So, how many times did you launch it, and was it done consecutively many times? Man, with that impressive stable of yours, is the GTR regarded as your "Bic" car?
QUOTE (GTRfallapart @ Oct 13 2008, 05:06 PM) *
I am a new owner of the GT-R, and yet another victim of this problem. Just got a call from my dealership telling me the warranty is voided. Needless to say, the dealer told me how to activate the launch sequence, and NEVER warned me about warranty voids. I did ask him how many times I could use it, and how to use it. The only warning I received was that I should not have used it 10 times in a row. If I am supposed to know the manual, so does he, especially since he's the owner's son, and it's a big dealership. The car has 900 miles on it. I also own a Ferrari 599, 430, and Scuderia. All of them have euro specs, and all of them have launch control. I launched all of them several times, and I still run on the same clutches. Ferrari warned me correctly about not abusing LC, and about having to change the clutch prematurely (Which is 1/4 of a Nissan transmission anyway). This sound to me like a Joke, and a buch of clowns that sold a fauly, weak product, and saved their day by putting a little note somewhere. In this day, and age, who reads a manual anyway. The dealer explaining how to launch the car is by itself wrong, especially since supposedly he knows it will void the Warranty. I have VERY good friends at Ferrari, in Italy, high level engineers, and test pilots who are having a blast at this. This is really bad for Nissan's image, and very unprofessional. They sold me a crippled product, and they think they can get away with fine prints.

We're in the process of starting a class action involving a high level Lawyer, who deal a lot with car problems. We think we have very good ground for taking action against Nissan. Anybody interested in joining this process, please email me.

Hey, just a new registrant here (Pointed to from the hardforums. COMPLETELY unrelated. ) and have a few questions ;)

Why all the Vette hate? The only thing going through vette owners minds when the GT-R was developed (Well, atleast the performance oriented ones, not the midlife crisis buyers) was: I Hope this can beat the GT-R, that thing is amazing, and all they get from you guys is: Vettes are trash, i mean, come on, we're all enthusiasts and there is nothing you can say about the vette's performance that is bad ;) The interior is a WHOLE other story, don't even get me started ;)

And one more, How many of the people who are posting about their GT-R's breaking REALLY need to post the rest of their stable? I don't believe half of them anyway, and it doesn't help you out at all "I know ferrari engineers" screams: "I'm trying to look more important incase Nissan reads this". Don't bother. You are important yourself REGARDLESS of who you know or what you own. You are the test market for the GT-R. You have in your garage one of the most powerful, technologically impressive cars ever built (Well, maybe not in yours anymore, seeing as they break... ) and YOU have the power to control the press on it. Keep doing what you are doing. Keep sending messages Nissans way (Check the consumerist, send them your stories, they love this sort of thing. ) and you'll get somewhere with it eventually.

Yours in admiration, and every so slightly in loating, FadedSpark ;)

[edit] oh yeah, autoblog picked up the story as well. Id recommend pitching it to jalopnik too.

I cannot recall how many times, honestly. A few. VDC was put back on immediately after launch. I enjoyed driving the GT-R, although in all honesty it has many flaws when compared to any Ferrari, such as springy steering wheel, excessive rebound on suspensions in all driving modes, which the 599 only shows in race mode on bumpy roads (Same weight). I would say that you can drive at the same speed, and feel 30% safer in a Ferrari. The GT-R stock, on not perfectly flat surfaces is a kangaroo, and it takes away a lot from feeling safe, and being able to go fast with the same confidence. It kind of feels dangerous at high speeds. In everyday use, and mildly fast use it feels fine. 430 has no rebound in all settings, and absorbs bounces much better. GT-R is impressive at low speed cornering, and exits. Do not like turbo lag when entering a turn at the limit, nor the way it behaves, unless you dose the gas precisely. Ferrari is much more neutral, and confidence inspiring (At high speeds). Of course, compared to a Corvette Z06, it's still a much better car, in every sense (Steering, suspensions, chassis).

Just trying to point out that I drive all my cars hard, really hard. Ferraris even harder than the GT-R. I put at least 50k miles a year on the Ferraris. I know how to drive them, and I buy performance cars to use them, not leave them in the garage, or drive them like babies. A performance car must perform for a reasonable amount of miles. I will not get pissed off when I have to change the clutch, not the brakes. I do not expect a performance car to fall to pieces after 900 miles!!! Nissan is 1/2 the price of a 430, yet you cannot justify a crappy transmission being sold with the car. If you do, then sell it for what it is, a crippled car, in which case I would not have bought it. I was royally swindled by a million reviews and TV programs, none of which mentioned transmission voids, nor transmissions falling apart. I want my cars to perform as they are supposed to. Ever heard of Ferrari voiding your warranty because you turned CST off (Not LC)??? It's pathetic of Nissan to do this, and very convenient, and I deeply regret buying this piece of junk. Even if they fix the transmission, I will not keep it. What's the point of having a handicapped car?

I was excited about this car, and coming from high performance cars, I was also rooting for this thing. Now I am a disgruntled customer who regrets this, and I
will do everything I can to expose the car as it deserves. People should not buy it, as it cannot be used as advertised. Nissan is trying to scam us for their clear shortcomings. If you cannot build high performance cars, then do not sell them as such, or bouild them properlly, and sell them at the price tag they deserve. On top of that, train your dealers not to encourage take offs. Had the dealer told me about it, I would have not purchased the car.

^^ You do realize that for their price, Ferrari's aren't exactly renown for good reliability?

Also, i like to see Ferrari put LC on their AWD car and see how long that'll last - that's if they do make a AWD car.

ya im gonna have to call BS on that post about the mileage on the ferrari's 50k a year? I dont think so. You would have to drive as much as a truck driver or fedex lol. I wanna see the odometer reading or a photo of your garage. If what you say about the GT-R trans breaking is true, is the car able to even move? What is its current status and what lights are on in your tach ;)

plus if anything you say is true, you did a bunch of launches before your first service appointment?? Not even septskyline was that dumb. Why should we care? You didnt even make it to your first inspection lol.

Or if you do have 3 ferraris then maybe u wont have a hard time buying a new trans. Dont mean to come off mean but too many fakes out there and anyone can chime in to say their GT-R broke without any proof.

feel sorry for you. 900 miles and a few launches and you busted a transmission.

can you post a dealer report? or their denial of your warranty claim?

for someone who has a million dollar garage, you certainly have a lot of free time.
just treat your GT-R as disposable, may be like a bad bottle of wine or something.

go enjoy your 599 or may be a blast with your ferrari higher level engineers and test pilots in their FXX or something.

in this day, and age, no one reads a manual. but everything has always been in the fine print.

btw what is euro specs on a 599, 430, and scuderia?

What you fail to mention is the length of Ferrari's Warranty, which is 2 years, the price to replace simple parts, and the price to replace brakes and clutches. The brake price goes up if you have the optional ceramic composite brakes. I wholeheartedly agree that Ferrari's should be driven, but the fact is that they're horrible daily drivers, as are most Italian cars. I also have a high-level contact in Ferrari, what's your name, I can ask him if he knows you.

The thing is with any of these high-performance cars, LC is is stupid and pointless. It's a selling point to the people who want to do 0-60 in 3.xx seconds. The GT-R is not just about its quick straight-line speed, it's more about the all-around ability of the car that is amazing. You should know this being a Ferrari owner. Do us all a favor and take the boy-racer type driving off of the road and onto the track where using LC is not necessary (unless it's for a race, in which your warranty would be voided anyways). A man of your stature, contacts, and money should be able to setup a track-day event where you can meet other car enthusiasts and see what skill you guys have where it really counts, on the track.

I'm sorry that the dealer has told you that you can use LC, but why don't people understand that they really do need to read the section that says "Warranty Information." You'd be surprised by some of the things that manufacturers try to get away with trying to void a warranty. They only usually last for a only around a year, but still....

Anyone know if the power-train warranty is still voided after replacing the defunct tranny with a new one, or is there a limited warranty?

Newbies posting are suspicious. There needs to be some verification that additional customers with tranny problems can sustantiate their claims. Not calling anyone a liar. Just want proof and prevent misinformation from clouding the facts.

Take it to the race track and drive it hard. dont use Freaking launch control you dont need it. its a crutch and wont get you anywhere. your not making yourself look any better by your comments. If you drive it hard, you shouldnt need LC.

without launch control this car will get to 3.8 to 4.1 secounds to 60. thats not slow. on the race track you can trash the track and be fine. the trans is perfectly made for racing, its proven itself. Tho to much racing will overheat it in Very hot weather, its not made for racing all day without modifications, obviously. anyone that races knows that. but its great otherwise and already proven itself on the race track, vdc on or off.

I have not seen any one trans break of have issues with racing on the race track. if you dont know how to drive and you dont know or your gettting wheel hop and you dont even know what that means... then your seriously not driving your car with respect.

this car doesnt deserve people that will abuse it. hell no car is deserving of abuse. abusing launch control and then finding a scapegoat like this thread to blame it on that, is just BULL SHIT.

granted dealers were stupid about the launch and im sure nissan had some problems getting the info to the dealers and etc... ya, its still ultimatly the owners fault in the end.

No one is pissy about the vetts' the problem is that vett fanboys dont like the r35 or anything nissan for that matter. i have never heard anyone say anything like you have said about getting the vette faster than a gt-r. alot of vette people dissrespect the car no matter what. the r35 members generally have owned vetts previously and repect it, tho the advantages of the R35 are greater than the vette in many respects, but that doesnt go without saying the vette doesnt also have some advantages, cause it does. i wont discuss those advanatages, but you get my point here. we get tired of fanboys coming around and dissrespecting all over the place. no matter where you go. R35 fans just try to point out all the advantages and all the proof that the r35 has that its better in those respects, but vette fanboys then get mad and pissed then become dissrespectfull and lack for a better word, it just dies, because they cant win the arguement or something by the name of nissan has some things better than it.

pfft.

There we go... I knew smart guy would eventually pop-up.
Is it a street car, or a track car? You want a track car, you buy a 430 Challenge. This is a street car with a specific feature. I have not used LC 50 times on the GT-R, probably not 15. Performance, including acceleration, is the only reason why I purchased this piece of junk. Why else do you think I would need it? Got plenty of nicer cars to drive. If I need more space I have an SUV. It was sold as a street car, and no dealer warned me about treating it like a feather. I do not destroy the other cars, which means that either I am not a terminator, or they're built properly. You have no idea how I drive, Do you? I have not mistreated the car more than I mistreat the other cars with a range of 12k, to 20k on them. This thing is not supposed to fall apart. Beside I made my point before.
