May, that's four months away. Who is up for Buttonwillow again in February or March? That way, instead of one trip to the track in a five month period, we can get two in, another trip to Buttonwillow, then down to California Speedway in May for the axis event.

axis, looking forward to the event in May. Sounds like it will be much fun. I have never been to California Speedway. How many walls and obstacles for me to hit if I decide to test out the GT-R's off road capabilities again?

You're going to want to keep your 4 tires on asphalt at Ca Speedway.

I'll be up for another round at Buttonwillow and do James' thing too. I'll be snowboarding more now that the season has really kicked off for me. All car stuff becomes third on the list of things to do.

Neo, yes lets do Buttonwillow again late Feb or early March. I'll get available dates and post up a new topic this week.

There are some pretty significant walls to hit without ever testing your GT-R's off road capabilities!!!

Here's in-car at California Speedway. This is in the GST Motorsports' 13 year old Impreza L developed by Mike Warfield (we were at the GT-R track day together). You'll notice that you probably wouldn't want to be having any issues in turn 1. Other than that, it's mostly safe.

don't worry about the walls, if you don't hit them , the walls are not a problem,

...it is a safe track, I can drive it with my eyes closed. being Chinese it looks like my eyes are closed anyways.

Here's a preview of the data analysis we ran on Darin's GTR at Buttonwillow. With Gary at the wheel, and Kert as ballast / Traqmate officer, we conducted back to back runs comparing the performance with the wing electronically locked out (static mode), and running fully active.

On average, the active laps were 1.29 sec faster.

The two fastest laps in each mode were:
Static Mode (2:01.40)
Active Mode (2:00.29)

ANALYSIS OF MAJOR TIME SAVINGS

The Sweeper: Gary blasts through the sweeper in 3.15 secs with the wing active, as opposed to 4.75 secs with the wing electronically locked into static mode. In active mode, the wing automatically dishes out maximum downforce under hard braking. This lets Gary get on the brakes harder, later, and for a shorter period of time. The exit speed from the Sweeper is 3 mph faster with the Active wing than with the static wing.

The Esses: Gary sails through the Esses in 9.04 secs with the active wing, and 9.15 secs in Static Mode. In active mode, the split wing adds more downforce to the inside wheel, and less to the outside wheel. This maintains the front to back balance, and transfers weight to the inside wheels. This resulted in exit speeds of 112.9 mph in Active and 111.8 mph Static.

Here's a traqmate comparison. The blue dot is active, red is static. The video is run at 2x speed. . . for those of us with short attn spans smile.gif

Here's the rough vid of the wing track footage . . . the one that goes up on our site will be a little nicer smile.gif I'm not really allowed to do our video editing ;)

Thanks to all who helped! We had a blast, and will see you in March!!!!! cheers.gif
