Chris Bernal here from STILLEN Brake Pros, AP Racing's exclusive North American distributor of road car brake products.
To clarify a couple of confusing statements I have read online and heard over the phones, here is the straight scoop regarding the Slotted face and J-hook face versions of AP Racing's very popular upgrade discs for the R35 GT-R: Both the Slotted and J-hook discs are made from the same top-quality, 48 curved-vane castings. Both have been proven to out-perform the OE rotors in better braking response, more positive feedback to the driver, more efficient cooling and extended disc life. Either version bolts directly to the original equipment (OE) hats, which was determined to be the most cost-effective solution. These are sold in pairs (front or rear) and include all new OE hardware and instructions. J-hook: Very aggressive pattern providing extra pad bite. This pattern was developed over many years of testing in professional motorsports around the world. With this added performance comes the expected increase in pad wear, the amount of which depends on actual usage (read: the driver!). It would be normal for these discs to generate louder groaning noises under hard braking since there are so many more leading edges moving across the pad. Slotted: This pattern is absolutely track worthy as well. These have nearly all the benefits of the J-hook pattern, but with slightly less aggressiveness. We expect longer pad life and more driver comfort with the Slotted discs. For those only interested in track performance, the J-hooks are the better choice. For daily drivers who also take their car to the track, the Slotted discs would provide the better owner experience. For a video showing the differences (narrated by a guy with fairly lame acting skills), see: AP Racing discs for the GT-R explained As usual, if you have any questions, let us or the forum sponsor you deal with know. My division serves wholesale accounts only, so we will need to refer questions regarding pricing and shelf stock to our dealers. See you at the track, Chris |
