See attached pics.

I watched the video by Chris of Stillen talking about the slotted vs J-hook here.

Chris mentions how the slotted rotors and the 48 vanes "allow more air to be pumped from the center out".

Well, take a look at the attached pics. My rotors match the ones in the video but do not match the diagram included. The instructions match the concept of pumping air from the center out, but the slots on my rotors and in the video do not match the ones in the diagram.

What do you guys think?

well i am pretty sure the vanes (inside the rotor) should be pointing "backwards" towards to back of the car, to facilitate air coming up via the centre hub area. The direction of the slots, does seem to be opposite of the diagram, however i am not sure that really matters?

The grooves will be going the same direction as the internal vanes on the actual rotors, the vanes exiting (pointing) to the back. The diagram in the instructions has the grooves on the sides of the rotor backwards from the actual product.

well the vanes point in both directions...actually in 48 different directions.. Do you mean the vanes on the TOP of the rotor are directed toward the back?

Sorry for any confusion. The answer posted above is correct. It is the vanes that determine rotational direction, not the face pattern. The diagram has been around for quite a while and meant to be generic. It looks like it is time to get that old thing updated!

The old school way we used to teach the NASCAR guys was to put a pen or pencil into the vanes at the top of the disc. If it pointed to the rear of the car, it was installed correctly. If not, swap it with the other side.

One funny side note: I've seen more than one E36 M3 with the factory curved-vane front rotors installed backwards...

They look like they match to me. The one in the picture there, it has the attachment points on the outside of the rotor. Thats the right side disk.

Look again. The "brake pros" insert has the vanes and slots criss-crossing. My discs and the ones in the video are "parallel"...

I got my answer so no problem now.

Ok. I see now. The picture of the slots is wrong. I was only looking at the vanes, as they are the important part. The slots are just decoration.

Has anyone seen OEM IS-F rotors, there was only one part# and the cross-drilled pattern is backwards on one side of the car doh.gif Regardless of the functionality of "pillar vanes", that would still bother the CRAP out of me.
