Trey, do you have any plans to try and tap into the GTR display? I have no idea how feasible that is, but it would be great to see the AccessPORT information displayed on the built in display.

Don't feel obligated to answer this question, but do you have plans to purchase a Mines or Amuse ECU to see what they have done with mappings?

Here's my wish list for ECU maps that I'd like to see made available for stock configuration as well as for different variations of additional bolt-ons.

Valet (speed limiter - RPM limiter)
Normal (stock)
Mild (mild increase to power)
Wild (max increase to power - use with discretion)

Don't laught but I wonder if there will be any demand for transmission, torque distribution, suspension, or VDC tuning? I know there are already switches to control these systems and dynamic feedback is invoved in some of them as well but, a Wet vs Dry map or something of that nature is an interesting proposition. Nissan may provide updates to these maps on new models or later builds of the same models that could be put in place using your product if you supported it. Nissan Dealerships might not provide some of these things in the future. If the anticipated Vspec has tweeks to the ECU or any of these other systems, then they could be put in place.

HKS camp 2 system will have a display mod for the GT-R.

I notice that you have led's rear view monitor and something else on order...Where are you getting them from and How do I get them?

Buying through my dealer in Japan. These are options you have to specify you want through the dealer. I was in Japan so it was simply a matter of walking up to the display and identifying what I wanted on the car.
They were listed on my online form as dealer options.
These you have to pay extra for.
I especially chose the rear view monitor because I wont be using the nav system and the rearview is a bit compromise by the wing.

i think modding is too fun to resist.... I will probably just do mild things like the intake and exhaust until next spring...then Im ready for the Access Port and things...

the iForge wheels look cool , Im still going to see if Nismo releases some RAYS wheels or find sone on my own like the Volk TE-37's ... neo, what are you doing with the stock wheels/tires?

TREY:
GREAT WORK!

I do have one tiny question that may or may not have been asked....
IF a Nissan tech takes a look at the ecu after the acessport has reflashed the ecu back to stock with they be able to see that the ecu was tampered with (flashed to) in the past. Basicaly this comes down to two things:
1. Does the ecu have a record of all all data that is uploaded to it that is stored and can be viewed later?
2. Do the Nissan techs have tools that can read the ecu in such a way that they will see more than just the current state of tune (IE: what changes have been made during the history of that particular ECU)?

THANKS IN ADVANCE AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
PS:PUT ME DOWN FOR TWO OF EACH!!!
NickTO
Trey,

I have an interesting fuel question. Have you ever attempted to generate maps for a turbo car with AccessPort to run on E85? Given the flexibility of the ECU it would be interesting to see how the GT-R would run with 104 RON E85 (~99 [R+M/2]). The fuel economy would certainly go down the toilet but it may prove to be a 'track day' performance upgrade.

Any thoughts?

Those of you planning to track the car and are seeking aftermarket wheel and tires, have you thought about the tires coming off during high g cornering?
MindlessOath
I belive thats just for the runflats. if your running other tires with aftermarket rims, it shouldnt matter.

I am switching both street and track setups to after-market. That is for both wheels and tires. If you are looking to do this, pay careful attention to the load range of the after market tires you are looking to run, not just the speed rating. I suggest to match stock load rating, or as I am doing at least on the rear, going a bit higher. At this time, you will not be able to match stock tire size exactly with any real selection of tires so if you want to stay with the tire size selected by Nissan, you will be better off sticking with the Bridgestone Run Flats. I am changing not just tire size but wheel size. From day one in this car, I will be running after-market wheels with non-run flat tires. Once I have tested them out thoroughly, which I will have more than adequate time to do on my drive back, I will report my findings here. I figure, if they don't work out, I always have the stock wheels and tires to go back to.

^^^^aah, now I see.
So which aftermarket tires have been found to work as good on the track or for DD? Anyone?

It's experiment time when we start getting our cars. For now, I only see the stock tires running on these cars, but we have all seen the price of these. I am just waiting on confirmation that the size wheel and tire I want to run is going to fit the GT-R. Once I know 100% everything fits, I will post up the tire size, wheel size, and proper off sets. I do not want to give out wrong information.

Id go RAYS all the way. If youre getting the king of Japanese sports cars why not get the king of Japanese wheels.

If everything works out, which I am sure it will, I am keeping the stock wheels to run winter tires on. For the stock Bridgestone tires, although I won't be driving back on them, I am keeping them. I am going to use them up in a comparison with some non-runflat tires on my after-market wheels when I get back home with the car.

gotcha... Wheels and tires I feel are pretty good on the car... But I will eventually change them... I'm sure this car will help more 20" tires become available... I'll go intake and exhaust and ecu ( boost) 1st

Plus I know Rays helped make the stockers and I think the stock wheels look really good..
timechaser
Interesting discussion this about wheels. Had someone tell me (though honestly, he looked about as clued up as a baboon's backside - said he had just come from training at a high performance center where he had built special GTRs and played with the Spec V) - that Rays are the only ones Nissan is going to "allow" to use the TPMS system and let the stuff pair (or whatever it does).

Pull out your own from this...
Arch5
Yeah, sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about. From what's been said, I-Forged has already designed a wheel that will allow the sensors enough clearance.
ShahulX
anyone have a link for someone who sells 20" TE-37's in black? and if they will work with the TPMS?

True. The stock wheels ARE indeed made by Rays. They were on display at the Rays booth at the Tokyo Motor Show.

^ I love the stock gunmetal wheels... I will eventually get a second set of wheel but will keep the stockers for winter

Sorry for the delay in a response. Unfortunately I wasn't taking time off, just dedicating my focus to finishing a project for another vehicle that is at its deadline. This is a long reply, but there were a lot of great questions posted. If I missed yours, just post it again and I'll do my best to address it.

For the tire questions, we have been looking for more of a 'time attack/track' tire but right now there really isn't anything that we feel is ideally sized. We've actually been talking with several tire manufacturers and right now it looks like we're going to go with Toyo. We already run the Toyo R888 on our other cars (actually was used to test them prior to their release) and they are working on some GT-R sizes for us at the moment. Our GT-R should be in their booth at the Long Beach Grand Prix, though I don't know if they're going to have the tires ready by then.

I've already answered some emails about Price and Availability. To recap, we hope to have something available for the JDM cars as soon as possible. As I mentioned, maps can be updated remotely so as we continue to unlock more power and improve driveability, we can make that update available for anyone with an AccessPORT to download and apply to their car. We shouldn't have any problem making it available as soon as the US cars come out. For UK and other markets, we'll just have to take them on as we have the resources. This year we have a strong focus on expanding our business internationally, so we don't want to over-promise but we feel more ready to handle other market than we have in the past.

Full titanium exhaust from COBB, I can't really commit to that just yet. Our initial designs are being done out of Stainless Steel until we feel it has been optimized and then we'll look to do it from a lighter weight material. Maybe titanium, maybe something else. ;)

Valet mode we do by way of setting turbo maps to the absolute minumum, lowering rev limiter, lowering speed limiter, and detuning the throttle mapping (ie: not allowing full throttle).

As for keeping track of all the maps generated by our authorized tuning facilities, we do not currently. There has been much discussion about setting up something very much in the concept, but we're still in the planning stages at the moment. We have a really great idea, but as with many great ideas we need to make sure it stays simple so it can be executed within a realistic timeframe.

For tuning documentation, we do provide that as well as a decent (and improving) support structure. In addiitonal we offer "EFI 101, 201, etc" classes where the 101 stuff is an introduction to the basics that can be taken online. From there we try and host training seminars at our facility or at larger enthusiasts meets. We've been doing a few a year but as we've been able to add more tuners (calibrators) we've been trying to recruit the types of people that can also be trained to be good trainers.

With regards to viewing Mine's or other's tuning, it typically hasn't been any priority for us to do so. Not because we feel any one else's mapping is inferior, but we all have different means to a similar end. Having started selling the AccessPORT in Japan (we distribute it through Prova and Cusco), there is also a stricking philosophical difference between Japanese tuners, American tuners, and so on. I spent a little time with an Australian company awhile back on a tuning project, and we've done the same for some European based companies and just as our cultures are subtly different, so are each of our tuning styles. To say one is superior to another is like claiming Chinese food is better than French, it depends on your tastes. That all being said I feel our own company's tuning style is not typical American. We tend not to be focused solely on outright peak power over a single pass on a dyno as we are with the entire driving experience, with a good degree of reliability. That also isn't to everyone's tastes, which is why we try and encourage a network of tuners using our AccessPORT to customers can pick their favorite 'flavor or chef'.

We own a Consult-III, which is the dealer service tool running the latest dealer updates. The best way I can answer the question regarding what "markers" may be left or what history can be viewed related to previous reflashes is that of what we are aware of, we bypass so there is no marker left. What we are not aware of, we can work to address once we learn of its existance. Ultimately, our intent is not to allow people to make fraudulent warranty claims to the dealers. Our company believe you should be prepared to accept the consequences of any damages you incur to your vehicle by knowingly modifying it. However we also realize from a product design standpoint it is a feature people demand. So, we engineer for that as we can but sincerely hope that people do the right thing. It's just not our job to be moral police, we simply produce a product to that suits the needs and demands of the market.

Finally, E85, no immediate plans. We need to investigate first how the entire system is suited for a high ethanol content. So it's possible, but it would be something more in down the road if/when we did so.

Cheers,
Trey @ COBB

I wouldn't be trying to falsify anything... I think we just don't want to get dinged by the dealer saying a warranty isn't there for engine tuning if its an issue with the radio or a/c...

I'd take full responsibility if something would go wrong with something I knowing did ... Like all the screwing around I did with the safc on my evo

Any info on that prototype intake?

And how is the fuel delivery, does anything need upgrading for mild tuning like injectors etc? Or does it look like you can tune a but before having to mess with any of that?
Neoseven
Thanks for posting here Trey. Looking forward to see everything you do with the car, including the tuning maps and power you are able to get with the Access port. Of all the products I have seen come along for working with the ECU, this is my favorite. I can see this being my first ECU related change on this car.

Also, thanks for the answer on the tires. That is the first change I am doing on mine in preparation for track. I can't tell from the pictures, but, how much room is under there. Look like you can setup up an inch around each corner in wheel width or is there a lack of space?

I did a lot of research on what was available in tires, first trying to stay with stock size, then trying to stay with stock wheel size different tire size, then trying different wheels size and tire size. All on paper per say. I wanted to go non run flat, but wanted to stay as close to stock diameters as possible. The closest I came up with was 27.56" diameter front, 27.91" diameter rear, a 1.22% diameter difference but this required wider wheels front and rear, and wider tires front and rear in order to achieve, as close to stock diameters as possible. The stock Nissan wheels and tires have a28.03" diameter front and a 27.85" diameter rear, a 0.65% difference.

Will the stock GT-R wheels fit any other car? So that I could sell the OEM set for an aftermarket one when I get the car, eventually.

Awesome. A mini sub consult III for each and everyone one of us who owns a GTR.

So Nissan, checklight us as much as you want! For we have Accessport!

Take that! lol.
