Full Version: AAM 3.5" Adjustable Exhaust - Video - Final Development Stages!
NAGTROC - The Nissan GT-R Owners Club > GT-R Technical Support > Engine
Pages: 1, 2
Clint@AAM
Hey Everyone,

Well, we finally fired up our 3.5in adjustable exhaust. Want 700hp with stock exhaust note? Look no further. Featuring in car electronic adjustment, this exhaust can be quiet as the stock GT-R with NO DRONE and be loud only when you need it to be! biggrin.gif

The exhaust is made from 3.5inch (approx 90mm) T304 Mandrel Bent Stainless Steel. The muffler is as well 3.5in all the way through and made from polished stainless steel. This is a true 3.5in exhaust - piping diameter runs the entire length of the exhaust, including the muffler. From the muffler to the tips, the 3.5in pipe splits to 4 2.5in (65mm) diameter pipes leading to the 4 tips. This system also includes an in car switch to convert the exhaust from open to closed.

MSRP: 3995.00

DYNO PROVEN TO OVER 700WHP Open, & 675WHP Closed

Enjoy the dyno runs in the video below!

Watch and listen to the difference between the first half of the video to the second half. (slight exhaust leak towards end of video - we're waiting for our exhaust gaskets to get finished up - right now its just RTV)

I do have some pictures of the prototype I can post on Monday. Right now the prototype exhaust is a whole bunch of 3.5" bends welded together. Once dyno testing confirms our layout design, we'll move forward to mandrel bending the 3.5" mid section before the muffler in one-piece. As soon as we have the one-piece mid section bent up I'll take some pictures and post em.

Thanks for the comments everyone!

Did you finally buy something.... If you did good choice...
Mike@AAM
Just got back after putting several hours on the new exhuast - one word - Incredible. This has to be the neatest product we designed! You can go from near factoy quiet to full race at the touch of a switch, and the annoying GT-R drone is eliminated. If anyone is in the area call us up and come over to check it out!
jmunjr
Does exhaust flow through all 4 exhaust pipes when in quiet mode? The same in the "race" mode ?

I'll be there to check it out on Friday !

And the tips can be changed ?? I want ovals like the ARC exhaust
Ev0H8t3r
ok ok last question...

the tips, are they stainless or?
Do thye look stock or?

so hard to tell in the pics and didnt see anything talking about it...

are there any options for the tips, ie, Ti or burnt or powdercoated?

I like SS however I hate the inside SS it shows its dirty way too much...
ShahulX
I was there last week...I can tell you the tips can be easily changed I think.... he said they would offer different tips but the standard ones look almost stock and were SS... just a bit bigger... look very nice in person... ill take titanium ovals please...

Mike told me about this exhaust about 6 months ago.... glad he is finally almost done... congrats mike and clint! SEE some exhausts actually do have R&D vs just being "thrown together"

No, The quiet valve is after the split and diverts all of the exhasut through the muffler with the valve closed. When it opens, exhaust travels through the muffled section and the unmuffled section.

It looks and sounds nice, but a little pricey for some SS pipes. Nice job smile.gif

Awesome stuff......guys be ready i'll probably be the next one on the list to get all those goodies. Need to save up a little more and i'll def. be sending you guys my car.
Ev0H8t3r
dude are you sick? this price is great...hello its fully controlled, stock to F1 like sounds, way cheaper then the other guys making it in SS for over $7K...damn do some research...

It's SS piping that has one muffler, and an eletronic cut out. That is less than 2k in parts for sure. Which lets 2500+go to labor and profit.
You should not be comparing the cost to a titanium "JDM", overpriced, exhaust(the tips alone sell for 1-2k, which is also crap). I know that is what these vendors are doing, becuase they can "justify" the cost becuase of it. The price will fall with more domestic competition. Just wait ;)

Back ot the exhasut instead of price bickering ;) I don't think I would ever have the valve closed smile.gif
elpasogtr
I bought the exhaust and will never have it in quiet mode except for when I'm on the highway. Crusing with my wife or kids. And late at night in the neighboor hood. Road trips. ECt. so actually there is a lot of reasons.
elpasogtr
what is the weight of this exhaust???
Ev0H8t3r
Im only camparing this exhuast with a the only othe rmaker of a swtich system, and their work is SS with TI tips...and its over $7K...thats the only one who makes one besides these fine people at AAM...

AAM keep up the good work!

Ok that's what I thought. Kinda weird, but I guess if it works well. The only gripe I can think of now is that there will be uneven blackening of the exhaust tips which will look silly...
Ev0H8t3r
that is why some of us want the single Oval tips on each side...and or have the tips blackend inside or painted...so it wonts show the dirt...
jmunjr
Can you do a video clip of a WOT drive by starting from low speed in first up to 3rd gear or higher ? smile.gif It will give us a better feel for the sound. Also which mid pipe is in the in the video ? Thanks!

I understand your concern. We weighed the pricing heavily. Getting set-up to mandrel bend 90mm pipe caught me by surprise - more necessary than I thought. We also manufacture the flanges, tips and gaskets, all here at the shop. We're not outsourcing anything but the muffler and cut-out. And at some point, we will make the cut out ourselves. Keeping everything at the shop ensures a higher level of quality control because I can inspect each exhaust during the build process, but it also drives up cost. Having it made overseas is always on option, but then I don't have quality control, I'm not supporting domestic manufacturing, Its harder to make adjusments to design, and my guys wont be busy! For the build time and materiel consideration, I think that its current price is competitive.

On another note, I agree with you - the louder the better!! Keep it open biggrin.gif

We thought about that - but a couple of passes on the dyno and the street and you cant tell the difference between either side. Plus don't GT-R owners wash there cars religiously, lol I know we do smile.gif

As of right now, we've got the s/s tips ready to roll, as well s/s with a flat black inside. But, as I am also a fan of ti-tips - Variations will come some time in the future. This is just the beginning!

LOL, Mike and were out in it yesterday and we both looked at each other and said " we need a flyby!"

We'll be dropping Jon off at the side of some empty road here when the weather clears up and get some flyby clips....if we come back for him, lol. J/K

The GT-R in the video was equipped with HFCs, Resonated mid-pipe an the 3.5" exhaust.
Ev0H8t3r
Clint, you guys thought of everything, guess I will settle for the SS with balck inside for now untill we get the Ti out! thanks

Ok I did some research and you are smoking crack smile.gif

The GTC titan exhaust is all Ti and is much lighter and less expensive

it doesnt have the valve to change sounds, but again its lighter and made from Ti and its cheaper
irock.gif irock.gif irock.gif
Gadfly
Neat idea!! So if I am seeing correctly you put a electronic header cut-out valve that bypasses the muffler? What size are the pipes that lead into the tips? When looking from the back of the car, They look kind of small..

People could do something similar to any exhaust. An electric cut out valve is @$150-180 for a really nice stainless one, a wireless controller is @$110. I did an super quick google... http://www.badlanzhpe.com/page2.html ; Any decent exhaust shop could modify any exhaust with some cutouts.
elpasogtr
I don't think most of the exhaust that are currently available have a way to route exhaust to a muffler that totally quiets the exhaust and when u want shut off a valve that will allow u to bypass that muffler. I'm sure the pros can explain that better than I did

countinue your search, there is only one other brand that offers this, changing your sounds settings...

yeah the GTC is lighter and cheaper but its not the same as this, if you are going to compare apples to oranges then you will be on this forum all day...
elpasogtr
The only people I know that have valve tronic exhaust are
1. AAM
2. Krisseig
3. Top secret.

Even if u find an exhaust that can some how bypass the muffler for race mode u can't find one that will feed the exhaust to a muffler that totally quiets the exhaust in quiet mode.

My point was someone else said this exhaust was EXPENSIVE for what you get

I agree with him cheers.gif

for $4500 you get SS not Ti

its heavy

yes you get the sound adjustability but for $4500 it should be made of Ti and be much lighter

I just dont think this exhaust is the Holy Grail as you make it out to be doh.gif

not trying to stir the pot just throwing my .02 in here wavey.gif
elpasogtr
I don't think it would be possible to make a profit from a 89mm exhaust built in ti. Plus valvetronic. And sell it for that price
Gadfly
You can add a simple pair exhaust cut-outs to any exhaust just before the mufflers. When you open them the exhaust will be open, with no muffler, and when closed you will the exhaust will go though the muffler.

So buy what ever exhaust that suits your "quiet mode" needs, and use the cutouts for "race mode". For the best results you could add the cut outs right at the base of the base of the "y" pipe; just after it meets with the downpipe.
