HI all, I'm new here...
Just a question for you...please :-)

I'm looking for some upgrade engine .
On market offen I see that the TUNER can take more power with own kit (intercooler, ecu flash, turbo upgrade, ect.ect ) from 600hp...to 800hp.. BUT I never see that's they speak about CHANGE THE PISTON...for exemple.

Question : HOW MANY HP INCREASE CAN YOU THINK the original engine can support before have a problem ?
I don't speak about the transmission and break system....just only for engine.
Thank's a lot every imput it's apreciate :-) !

it all depends on the setup. its probably a good idea to change them when you run near the edge. say you run stock turbos but run it at 550whp (on mustang dyno). you might want to upgrade piston and rods and add intercooler. thats only because of all the heat blowing. if you run E85 it looks like it runs cooler from what tuners have shown.

it all really depends. say you want to run over 300whp over stock, you want to be safe, then put them in. is it neccessary? it all depends on many factors. talk to a tuner and plot out your goals.

Thank's a lot, I'm live in Europe so we run at 98 octane.
It's sure that can be an good idea to change it - but expansive too - .
Do you know....i see SWITZER, HENNESSY, HKS, ect...they never speak about replace it....
I was just currious :-)

Turbo upgrades can range from smaller turbos like the Aam gt800-r, ams, ssp, switzer are small fast spooling turbos like our stocks. These will add around 200-250+whp. these have been installed and pretty porvrn. The bigger turbos like the one Aam gt900r, ams, boost logic, greddy are going to give you 250-350whp and you will suffer a little lag. There a builds coming with these bigger turbos and everyone is eagerly waiting for their reusults. The pistons, stroker, cams and crankshaft have recently been coming out and people are putting them in as we speak. Jun has a complete engine but it's ridiculously priced. For cams we have mines and jun while tomei is about to come out. Forged performance and Aam sell pistons for the gtr which are much cheaper than the juns or mines.

I don't know if you are the type to send the car and get everything done at once like some of the ballers here or you will be upgrading in stages like most of us. I am working toward for a turbo upgrade but I'm setting it up first. Had a full exhaust upgrade first. Getting the intercoolers and trans upgrades, then will be adding turbo.

Well I think the aftermarket Turbos all push a lot of cool air. I'm not sure at which point one would require these parts. sp engineering and Switzer both run just over 300whp over stock and they didn't add them iirc but they used race gas to get that high iirc.

There is virtually no long term data to show what time might tell.

Thanks a lot at all....
You know I don't want to spend some money in kit....and after 1 year have problem with some "original" part...
There is a "limit" about 20% where tuner can addict more HP without much risk...for the engine.

But offen with all own modification (kit too) we go over this limit......and rarely I read that someone change the piston...for exemple.
For this reason I have ask to you..." how many HP we can addict before need it to change the piston too...?!".

The factory motor is fine around 650-680 awhp, basically gains of 250 awhp from any baseline. Make sure your tuner knows the GTR very well. We feel anything higher then 700 awhp (300+ gains) rebuilding the bottom end with pistons and rods is highly recommended.

I'm going for 800 on stock bottom end. Guess we'll find out what happens. Twin GT3076R HTA's.

If you're like me you want your car to go faster. There are a few easy ways to get more "fast" out of your volkswagen. Depending on what type of VW you have the selection of parts available to you will vary wildly. There are a lot of people out there tuning their Golf/GTI but obviously there are a lot fewer Toureg parts out there.

There is a large community of VW tuners out there and visiting the forums where these people hang out is a very good idea. They can give you an idea of what to expect out of various aftermarket parts. If the part exists the chances are good that someone on these forums has tried it out and written about it. This may sound silly but a couple of the best things you can do to make sure your car is running its best is to get your car a tune up and an oil change. Adding performance parts to a car that isn't already running its best isn't going to be nearly as effective. Another important but overlooked thing is making sure your tires are properly inflated. This can improve the handling of your VW as well as ensure you're getting optimum gas mileage. Once these basic steps have been completed there's a few other things you can do to upgrade your ride.

Let's not forget Jotech Motorsports. Jotech designed pauter rods and arias pistion off mine way back in October. I believe t jotech was the first one did them. cheers.gif

i thought injected performance were the first for rods and pistons? they may have posted it a long time ago on the blog http://www.injectedblog.com/index.php?s=VR38 with CP and Carrillo.

WHAT?

Why exactly are you here giving advice about how to get more 'fast' out of my VW?

Nice spam. Pretty subtle.

that's pretty high..did not know that...guess I should be fine for a while before having to go into the motor.

Man...I never had a VW car :-))

I have posted that QUESTION because, with my 350z my tuner have made the stage 1 with SuperCarger kit, but if I would like to pass at the stage 2, we have to change the piston and rod's too .
Now he is making a new kit for GT-R stage 1 only with ECU flash , BUT for stage 2 (850hp) he thinks it's ideal to change the piston and rod's too.
But I see that there isn't more tuner who does this....when they present own turbo kit with this power !!
